In 1997 just off the south coast of Chile the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration found an ultra-low frequency sound that was unusual. It is the loudest sound underwater to have ever been recorded, and it was detected by hydrophones said to be 5,000 miles apart. The sound lasted for just one minute, and it has never been repeated since.
INVESTIGATION INTO THE BLOOP, LOUDEST UNDERWATER SOUND
Now Cara Cusumano has made a short and mesmerizing documentary entitled The Bloop and investigated the strange and unknown phenomenon along with Dr. Christopher Fox who is the chief scientists of Acoustic Monitoring Project at the NOAA Pacific Marine Environmental Lab. He said that he had taken it to the classified innards of the United States Navy intelligence.
In the short film, Dr. Fox can be heard saying that it was not theirs and it is captivating due to the fact that no one seems to have any idea what made the loud noise and why it made it. He went on to say that he is happy that there are still some things on the Earth and Universe that remain something of a mystery. Dr. Fox explained even though he lived inland he used to spend a lot of the time on the Jersey shore visiting and this is why he thought he had gone into the business he is into. He said that he liked to listen to the waves hitting the shore at night and found the ocean fascinating.
LOUDEST UNDERWATER SOUND LASTED ONE MINUTE NEVER HEARD AGAIN He said that during the time of the incident most of the work of underwater surveillance had been classified by the military, but they had managed to hook into the Navy’s system in 1991. They had a system that could collect the signals from the underwater listening system of the Navy and said that on rare occasions there were sounds that they were unable to identify. The doctor said that one sound stood out and they labeled it the Bloop due to the sound it made. The sound never happened again, and it mystified them as it was extremely loud and rose in sound then dropped and only lasted for a minute. No one knew what the sound was, even the military.
It was said that they thought the sound was not man-made and they also said it did not sound like it came from the loudest animal, the blue whale, as it was very much louder and the frequency was lower. So could it have been something alien or from a creature that has never been discovered?
